What we do
A shoe built around your foot, not adjusted to fit it
Most shoes are made on a generic last and sized to approximate your foot. At The Tailored Foundation in Rosemont, every shoe starts with a last carved specifically to your measurements. Your arch height, your toe spread, your heel width — all of it is accounted for before any leather is cut. The shoe is then built by hand from the ground up around that last.
The result is footwear that fits correctly from the moment you put it on. Read more about what sets this process apart in our guide on why custom shoes are worth the investment.

Why bespoke
Why off-the-shelf shoes never quite work
Standard shoes are designed around an average foot that may not resemble yours. Width, arch height, toe box volume, heel cup depth — these vary significantly from person to person and cannot all be addressed by sizing up or down.
A bespoke shoe built on your own last eliminates all of those compromises. It fits every dimension of your foot correctly, from the first wear, and continues to improve as the leather forms to your foot over time. Read more about what to look for in a shoemaker near you.

What people ask before booking
How long does a pair of bespoke shoes take?
Most commissions for Rosemont clients are completed within several weeks of the initial consultation. If you have a specific event, let us know at the first appointment and we will structure the timeline around it.
Will the shoes really fit without any break-in period?
Yes. Because the shoe is built on a last carved to your foot rather than a generic size, it fits correctly from the first wear. The break-in period associated with standard shoes is a symptom of a shoe that was never shaped for your foot to begin with.
How long will my bespoke shoes last?
With proper care and periodic resoling, decades. The Goodyear welt construction means the sole can be replaced multiple times without affecting the upper. The full-grain leather we use develops patina rather than breaking down with age.
Can you accommodate wide feet or unusual foot shapes?
Yes, and this is one of the main reasons clients seek us out. Because the last is built from your measurements, wide feet, high arches, bunions, and significant differences in size between feet are all addressed in the construction rather than worked around.
Do you serve clients outside Rosemont?
Yes. We also have studios in Libertyville, IL and Milwaukee, WI.
Can I order bespoke shoes to pair with a custom suit?
Absolutely, and we recommend it. Commissioning both together means the shoe and suit can be designed to complement each other in leather, color, and finish. Visit our custom suits in Rosemont page to see what we offer.
