What we do

A suit built around your body, not a standard pattern

Off-the-rack suits are cut for an average body that may not match yours. At The Tailored Foundation, every suit starts with your exact measurements. We draft a pattern specific to your proportions, choose fabrics together, and construct the garment by hand with fittings along the way until it is exactly right.

If you have been wondering what separates a bespoke suit from everything else on the market, our guide on what tailored suits actually are covers it in full.

The process

What to expect from start to finish

01

Consultation

We meet, take your measurements, and discuss your style, fabric preferences, and the occasion.

02

Fabric selection

Choose from premium fabrics. Weight, weave, lining, buttons — all decided together, with guidance at every step.

03

Construction

Your pattern is drafted specifically for your body and the suit is built by hand from the ground up.

04

Fitting and finish

One or two fittings to refine the fit before the final garment is complete and ready to wear.

Why bespoke

Why a tailored suit beats off the rack

Off-the-rack suits are manufactured for a statistical average. If your proportions do not match that average, no size will ever fit correctly across the shoulders, chest, and waist at the same time.

A bespoke suit resolves this entirely. The shoulder seam falls where your shoulder ends. The jacket closes cleanly. The trousers sit at your waist without a belt doing extra work. Read more about why more men are choosing bespoke over off the rack.

Common questions

What people ask before booking

How long does a bespoke suit take?

Most clients receive their suit within a few weeks of the initial consultation. If you have a specific event or date in mind, get in touch early and we will plan the timeline around it.

What is the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure?

Made-to-measure adjusts a standard pattern to your size. Bespoke starts from scratch — your own pattern, drafted for your body specifically. We only do bespoke. Learn more in our post on what tailored suits actually are.

Do I need to know what I want before coming in?

Not at all. Our tailors walk you through every decision during the consultation. If you want to prepare, our guide on questions to ask before buying a custom suit is a good starting point.

How do I know if a suit fits correctly?

The shoulder seam is the most important indicator. It should end exactly at the edge of your shoulder. We break down all seven signs in our post on how to know if a suit fits well.

Do you serve clients outside Rosemont?

Yes. We work with clients across the Chicago area and have additional locations in Libertyville, IL and Milwaukee, WI.

Can you make a suit for a wedding?

Yes. Wedding suits are one of our most requested services. We work with grooms and full wedding parties and plan the timeline carefully around your event date.
